Re-design of Wilson Construction’s Employee Intranet
Re-designed to be “easy to use” and maintained with the latest Flash & ColdFusion technology

Main Goal: Improved Employee Communication
Following “9-11,” Wilson employees felt a strong need to bond as a team with all of Wilson employees through out its 4 cities. After some meetings, it was suggested that a better functioning intranet would help build the teamwork environment. A new intranet could be inspirational and fun; one that rewards employee initiative and goodwill. Making our web “Section 508 accessibility” will now allow our blind and disabled employees to be more of a part of our company’s activities and news.

New Interactive Features
This new intranet will allow our employees to fill out benefit forms, surveys, join and/or organize athletic or hobby groups. The company newsletter will be available a PDF document for on screen reading or printing. Bulletins will randomly feature upbeat bios of some of our employees. (Announcing weddings, births etc.) Flash/Quicktime video announcements of our company president will appear from time to time.

Worker Skills / Safety Training Courses On-Line
Training courses will allow employees to effectively test and improve their skills. Training study guides can be downloaded. Workers can check their scores & job advancement. Important OSHA safety guidelines and safety alerts will appear as top flash banner ads!

Target Audience Mostly Men…
Our target user is married men between 24 and 62. The male office management is significantly older than their construction worker counterparts. The office pool has a fair amount of women, which helps balance the overly aggressive male temperament of this business. This intranet style should reflect a clean down to business style — with a sense of paternal pride. Page style can include lots of pictures of grown-up Tonka toys… such as construction cranes and bulldozers used in construction. The guys just love it.

This New Intranet Will Perform Better!
This new intranet will function well on all our employees’ varied types of computers (Macs, PCs, and Unix/Linux). This intranet operates on an OS neutral web environment using Flash Remoting and ColdFusion Server with SQL Database. System is highly secure using restricted access and passwords and requires low IT maintenance. As an office intranet it is networked locally on Ethernet, but can also be accessed from web with passwords and administrative restrictions.
